On Friday, May 28th a new FitLot outdoor fitness park was opened with a ribbon cutting by local leaders, including Kevin Mundy, our City Council Member, and Mayor Allen Joines.
The colorful site is located in Miller Park on the Queen Street side, and offers 22 possible exercises at a series of stations. A canopy for shade is included.
The structure complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and can be used by people regardless of their strength and mobility. Public restrooms are nearby.
The AARP grant includes funding for three years of free classes, led by fitness instructors, for anyone who wants to learn how to use the equipment safely and effectively. Class schedules will be announced in the coming weeks.
This fitness installation is made possible by a $171,000 grant from AARP. Winston-Salem and Miller Park were chosen over other North Carolina cities.
