Update on Lockland Avenue Homes

This update concerns ten (10) vacant single-unit residences in the 200 and 300 blocks of Lockland Avenue. These homes have been under Hospital-affiliated ownership for an average of over 30 years. In recent years, they have been allowed to sit vacant, have not be physically maintained, and all now likely require significant rehabilitation prior to potential occupancy.

The ANA met with Atrium Health representatives this summer for an update on the hospital’s plans for these homes. During our meeting, the Hospital indicated they had recently changed course, and now intended to divest of the properties. Four homes sites on the north side of the block were proposed to be converted into a micro-park, tying into a future City of Winston-Salem Greenway (Labeled as Number 18 in This Map), with ownership subsequently transferred to the City. The other six homes would be sold, likely on an As Is basis.

The ANA has reached out, but has not received any subsequent updates regarding timetables or other details related to this plan. Public records do not appear to indicate any ownership transfers of the homes away from Hospital affiliated entities. Regular visits by neighbors do not suggest any significant work being done on any of the homes.
