FAQs

When?  Bikemore is on Saturday, June 1st, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  There is no rain date.

Why?  A free, fun community event to promote bicycle safety, provide free helmets to children in need and bring Ardmore neighbors together!

Where?  Moore Elementary School (in the back bus lot). Parking will be in the front parking lot, reached on Queen Street.

               451 Knollwood St, Winston-Salem, NC 27103

Who is Bikemore for?

Anyone who cycles or wants to learn about safe cycling.  We especially want to teach safe cycling skills to children and will have a kids-only cycling area.

Is this a race?  Absolutely not.

Is there a rain date?

Sorry, no.  Follow the Ardmore Neighborhood Association (ANA) Facebook page for updates.

What is the Ardmore Neighborhood Association (ANA)?

It’s a 48-year-old non-profit organization made up of Ardmore residents and property owners.  The ANA hosts a variety of community-building events and works to protect the residential nature of our neighborhood.

See www.ardmore.ws and follow us on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/ArdmoreNeighborhoodAssociation

Who cannot come to Bikemore?

Do not bring skateboards, motorized bikes, scooters or hover boards. Please no dogs or other pets allowed in the event area.

Will there be food?  You bet!  But it’s fine to bring a picnic.

How about bathrooms?

There are bathrooms right across Queen Street (by the bocce courts).  Or go a bit further to the Miller Park Rec Ctr (400 Leisure Lane).

Where should we park?

Attendees should use the school’s front parking lot off Queen Street.

What should we do when we’re not using our bikes?

Please bring a lock to secure your bike.  Stay for lunch, games and relaxing outdoors.

What if my child doesn’t have a bike?

Come anyway and enjoy yourselves!  Bring a picnic lunch or order pizza from Domino’s across the street.  There’ll be a limited number of loaner bikes available.  And there’s a playground in addition to games like cornhole, sidewalk chalk and hula hoops.

I have a bike that’s no longer being used.  Want it?

Yes!  There’ll be a bike donation program run by Love Out Loud. They will have a trailer set up in the school’s regular parking lot. Just pull up and they will help you unload.

How can I help with Bikemore?

Become a volunteer or donate funds. Or both!  We need all types of volunteers!  Email ardmore@ardmore.ws for more information

What will be going on at Bikemore?

A variety of free bike-related activities, from a “bike rodeo” to relaxed biking in the back bus lot along with corn hole, jugglers, BMX demonstrations, sidewalk chalk and BUBBLES!  Plus, decorating kids’ bikes and helmets!  Helmet fittings and minor bike repairs.  Also, important bike safety information for families.

Whoa!  What’s a bike rodeo?

The police department runs this short class where kids learn hand signals and bike safety.  It’s in a safe, enclosed area in the back bus lot. Check it out:  https://youtu.be/RLZQisunrkg

Are tricycles allowed?

Of course!  And bring a helmet.  There’ll be space to ride around near the bike rodeo area.

May I bring my dog?

Sorry, no animals will be allowed in the blocked off biking areas (Appropriately restrained seeing eye dogs are allowed.)

What should we bring?

Besides your bike, bring your helmet and a water bottle.  And a lock if you might want to secure your bike. If you need a helmet, we have a limited supply of free helmets fitted onsite for kids in need.

Do I need to register in some way?

No, not before the event, but at the event you will have to sign a Release of Claims form if you want to do any of the events at Bikemore.  A parent or guardian must sign for minors.

My kid’s bike is broken.  Can you help?

There will be mechanics onsite who will tackle small repairs, as time permits.  They will also do a safety check of brakes.

Why are we teaching bike safety to kids?

Riding a bike is fun, healthy and good for the environment.  So let’s be sure our community’s kids can bike safely.

In 2019, nearly 100 children died of injuries while riding a bike in the U.S.  And it’s estimated that more than 122,000 children visited an emergency room for a nonfatal bicycling injury. https://www.safekids.org/sites/default/files/documents/bicycle_skateboards_and_skates_fact_sheet_2019_data_final.pdf

I want to learn about bike safety!  But where?
